Extera Receives 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

We are excited to announce that Extera Public School #2, in partnership with our afterschool program provider, Afterschool All Stars, is a recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. This highly competitive grant provides academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children and helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math. “Extera has had a successful partnership with After School All Stars for several years, and All Stars has been an important factor in the overall success of our enrichment programs. Next year, we are building on that success to expand our enrichment programs to reach even more students.”
This grant – which will cover a 5-year cycle – will allow us to develop a before school program for students who are dropped off early each day, providing a supervised space for students to work on school projects, complete homework, and have breakfast. Additionally, these funds will allow us to further develop our after school program at EPS2 (our Lorena Street and Eastman campuses), and to create a program option for students during Summer break. “The 21st Century grant is a fantastic resource for our school,” says Monica Salas, School Director of for our Lorena campus. “Moving forward, Extera will not only be able to continue its practice of providing after school enrichment until 6:00p.m. daily, but we will be able to expand those opportunities to before school and during the summer break. And, we will be able to continue to offer enrichment programs to all interested students at no cost to families.”
